California Poppy is one of the easiest natives to establish in a Northern California garden. It tolerates poor soil, full sun, and the long dry summers our region is known for. Once a stand is going, it'll reseed year after year with little intervention. We sell it in 1-gallon containers grown from California-sourced seed at our Oakland nursery.

Plant in fall or early spring for best establishment. Pairs well with Yarrow, Manzanita, and Coyote Brush in restoration plantings, and fits naturally into home landscapes designed around California natives.

1-gallon container, propagated at our Oakland nursery from California-sourced seed. Mature height: 12–18 inches. Bloom period: late spring through summer. Sun: full. Water: low once established. Hardiness: USDA zones 6–10. Wildlife value: supports native bees and other pollinators.

Picked up a flat for a hillside restoration project. Healthy, well-rooted plants — established quickly and bloomed the first spring. Will buy from Ecotones again.

Robert was helpful in choosing the right natives for our property and explained how each species would behave once planted. Plants arrived in great shape.
