Important Faq’s

• How does a quote-based service work?
  Every project starts with a free site visit. We walk the parcel with you, listen to what you're hoping to address, and follow up with a written quote that breaks the work out by zone or phase. You decide what to do now and what to stage for later — no surprise add-ons once work begins, no high-pressure upsells.
• Do you offer bilingual EN/ES trainings?
  Yes. Every workshop, crew briefing, and one-on-one training is offered in English and Spanish. We teach defensible-space layout, biochar production, native-plant ID, and crew safety — hands-on, in the field. We work with landowners, fire safe councils, and partner organizations across Northern California.
• What is biochar and why does it matter?
  Biochar is charcoal made from forest biomass under controlled, low-oxygen burning. Mixed into soil it holds water, supports microbial life, and stores carbon for centuries. We produce biochar on-site from material we remove during defensible-space and fuels-reduction work, so the byproduct of one job becomes the soil amendment for the next.
• How is defensible space planned around a home?
  We follow CAL FIRE's zone-based approach: Zone 0 (0–5 ft from the structure) is kept ember-resistant, Zone 1 (5–30 ft) is thinned and spaced, Zone 2 (30–100 ft) is managed for fuel continuity. We document what we remove, what we keep, and why — so you have a record before fire season and a plan for the years that follow.
• Do you ship native plants outside California?
  Local pickup is available at our Oakland nursery, and we deliver throughout Northern California by request. We currently don't ship outside the state — California natives are sold to support restoration in the watersheds where they belong.
